Skipping Resolutions, Trying a Word of the Year

Every January, the pressure hits. New year, new goals, new habits, new everything. And while resolutions can work for some people, they can also feel overwhelming, all or nothing, and hard to maintain. This year instead of making a long list of resolutions I am choosing a “word of the year”.

A word of the year isn’t about perfection or strict rules. It’s a simple intention a theme that gently guides your choices without adding pressure.

Your word might be something like strong, consistent, balanced, present, or patient. There’s no right or wrong choice. The idea is to pick a word that feels supportive, not stressful.

When you have a word instead of a resolution, you give yourself permission to show up imperfectly. Miss a workout? Come back the next day. Eat the cookie? Enjoy it and move on. Life happens, especially during busy seasons!

After jokingly talking to another trainer the first word that popped into my head was “prioritize” and you know what I think that’s a great word for me! I want to prioritize what is important to me and stop saying yes to everything! What do you think your word is going to be?

At Live Fit, we believe progress comes from consistency over time, not from perfection. A word of the year reminds you to keep moving forward, even when things aren’t perfect. So skip the pressure this year. Choose a word that feels right, let it evolve with you, and allow space for flexibility. Sometimes the simplest approach is the one that actually sticks.
