Running Tips

A lot of the times I tell people that I love running and they look at me like I have two heads. Many people don’t understand that running is not that horrible its just that you are not ready to be running as long or as far as you are going. The first thing I ask a person when they say they “HATE” running is how long do you try to run and how fast are you going. Most of the time they say I don’t know I just go. That is your biggest mistake. Have a plan and stick to it. It makes everything easier! Start slow and work up to running a mile. Begin by walking/running then slowly increase your running time and decrease your walking time. Also SLOW DOWN! Everyone runs too fast when they are just starting out, I promise you can not run too slow, when I first started running you could literally walk beside me. Now if you have been running for a month or so and it still seems difficult check out the tips I have listed below;
- Shorten your stride, this saves energy and makes it easier for to keep running
- Relax your arms, tensing your shoulders wastes energy
- Get new shoes, if your shoes are worn out it can cause pain in your feet and knees
- Eat a nutritious pre-run snack, you are burning a lot of energy while running so make sure to have carbohydrates stored up to get through your run
- Stay hydrated, if you are dehydrated it can cause dizziness, fatigue, or cramps
- Bring a buddy, everything is easier if you have someone else with you
- Take time to recover, if you runs seem to be getting harder try taking an extra day off between runs
- Stay entertained, make an awesome playlist or change up your tempo to keep things interesting
