How to start your day off better!

Are you a morning person? I can assure you I am NOT! I typically wait to wake up until the last possible minute, which then causes my mornings to be hectic, starting my day off on the wrong foot. I have recently made a few changes to my morning routine in hopes of starting the day off right. None of these changes are drastic but I can assure you they have made my mornings more enjoyable and have allowed me to be better prepared for the day.

The first thing I am working on is to become a better planner. What do I mean by that? I have started packing my lunch/snacks the night before and I make sure whatever I need for the day is ready and sitting by the door. This has helped my entire day go more smoothly because I have not arrived at work realizing I forgot my laptop or information for a project I need to work on that day.

The next thing is something I have been doing for years but I believe is worth mentioning! I drink a full glass of water right when I wake up. This ensures I have some water in my system before starting the day. After my glass of water I am attempting to eat a “real” breakfast. I am notorious for eating a protein bar in the car on the way to work (which I still do sometimes) but now I am trying to sit down at the table and eat breakfast. It is usually nothing fancy such as fruit and yogurt, an egg sandwich, or an omelet. This gives me a few minutes to just relax before the day starts.

The last thing I have started doing is picking up the house before I head to work. I used to arrive home from a full day of work to an unmade bed and a messy kitchen. Now I try to make the bed, put my coffee cup in the dishwasher, and clean up the dirty laundry. These are all small tasks but it is so nice to come home to a clean house at the end of the day!
