Cast Iron Skillet Steak

A few weeks ago I posted a picture of strip steak that I grilled in a cast iron skillet. It was so good I figured I should let you guys in on my secret ☺ We have had our cast iron skillet for over a year and never used it until recently…big mistake, HUGE!

We have used strip steak both times we have done this, but I am sure you could use a different type of steak; strip steak is just always on sale at the Fresh Market. Lets start by preheating your oven to 450° then make sure to let your meat come to room temperature, pat the steak dry and add a layer of salt and pepper to the steak. Next, heat up your cast iron skillet over high heat (ours takes forever to heat up so give it time) and add enough oil to coat the bottom of the pan (it should sizzle when you put it in the pan) then add the steak. Cook for 3 minutes then flip and cook for 3 minutes on the other side. Make sure not to move the steak around after flipping. Next, put the steaks in the preheated oven for 3-5 minutes depending how well done you prefer your meat. Remove your steak from the oven and cast iron skillet and let rest for about 10 minutes before cutting into it.

It’s literally that simple! Like I have said a million times before, I am no chef so if I can do this so can you! Let us know if you give this a try!
