Calcium Intake

Women need an adequate amount of calcium for breast and bone health. Osteoporosis is common in women because they typically do not get enough calcium. Calcium is a mineral found in many foods and the body needs calcium to maintain strong bones and to carry out many important functions. The best way to get calcium, and all nutrients for that matter is through the food that is consumed. Low-fat and low-sugar dairy products, such as milk, yogurt, and cheese are all high in calcium. Women can also take a multivitamin daily that has a high percentage of calcium, especially if they do not eat and drink dairy foods every day. Calcium recommendations are different based on your age but the recommended amounts for adults 19-50 years old is 1,000 mg. Make sure you are intaking enough calcium for your age each day!
