Affects of Sodium

Sodium is a necessary evil, sodium is needed for your body to function properly but too much sodium can also have adverse affects. The appropriate amount of sodium helps your body balance the amount of fluid your body needs by signaling to your kidneys when to retain or expel water. On the other hand having too much sodium in your body can cause many different problems that include but are not limited to the following; increased blood pressure, fluid retention, and stomach ulcers. A healthy adult should limit sodium intake to about 2,200 milligrams per day. There are many ways to reduce the amount of sodium in your diet but one of the easiest ways is to cook at home, that way you can control the amount of salt that is added to your food. Also make sure to try your food before you immediately add extra salt, sometimes adding extra salt to a dish is just a bad habit that needs to be broken!
